Becoming One of the Top Travel Companies Online: The Story of Ima Wideman

Have You Ever Been Thrown A Lifeline but didn’t know what to do with it?

Traveling has been my passion for a lifetime. I have been fortunate enough to have visited many countries throughout the world. For example, five years ago, I was able to take a wonderful trip to Israel and Egypt. During this time, I visited the Sea of Galilee, the Wailing Wall, many temples, and the pyramids for the first time. It was truly a humbling experience to be surrounded with history from every major religion.

However, upon my return to the states, my mom suffered a massive stroke. Although I was working as a full-time registered nurse, I was totally unprepared to become my mom’s caregiver. Do any of us really plan on dropping everything and taking care of our aging parents? My mother’s healthcare quickly became my number one priority and replaced my job as my full-time position.

My life had come to a complete halt. Suddenly, I needed to retire from nursing because I had no idea how long this phase of my life was going to last.

As a result of this difficult situation, I was forced to acknowledge two truths about my previous life:

  • I found being a nurse and providing for others in their time of need to be rewarding.
  • My nursing profession allowed me to live the traveling lifestyle that I came to love.

Becoming my mom’s full time caregiver created extreme amounts of stress. I was worried that I would not be able to continue to live the life I had worked so hard to create. I was afraid of becoming emotionally and financially depleted. Without having my normal paycheck, I was under a massive amount of pressure to find a way to make the life I was dealt work.

I wanted to step up for myself and my family. My mother was an amazing woman. As a single parent in Dayton, Ohio, she was able to complete her high school diploma at night . Understanding that knowledge is power, she went on to get a nursing degree while raising six children. Consistently encouraged by seeing our mom’s strong will, my brothers, sisters and I all became college-educated doctors, nurses, teachers, and accountants. In her time of need there was no question that I would take care of her. The question became “How?”

After a few weeks of adjusting to my new normal, my daughter offered me a lifeline. She and I shared a passion for travel. Maybe she got the same genes…

This lifeline was one in which I could work from home in an industry that I loved. When I started in the travel industry, I was concerned because I knew nothing about the ins and outs of running a home-based travel business. I knew that as much as I enjoyed traveling, I knew nothing about being a travel professional.

I spoke to my daughter and current business associate (yes, I get to work with my daughter—how awesome is that?) about my concerns. In return, she coached me on what it takes to succeed as a travel advisor and business owner. I learned many things in those early days, including the following:

  • I could save money and make money on my own travel.
  • Most people do not lack money, instead they choose to spend their money on what is important to them.
  • I could build my own legacy using the simple but true “time and money freedom” system.
  • There are significant tax advantages of owning my own travel business. (Ask your licensed tax professional for details)

Initially, I was hesitant to share with my friends and family about my new business. I was afraid that I would alienate them by marketing to them. I shared my concerns with my daughter. She explained that many people become desensitized and perform the lion’s share of the work for a company with only the mouse’s share of the profits. Every successful entrepreneur understands that working for “The Man” is the greatest mistake we can make.

This wasn’t the first time I attempted a sales career. I experienced significant obstacles with a previous sales opportunity. I felt I was selling products and services that people didn’t use daily or need. My quotas in these companies would have required me to be garage-qualified with a substantial inventory. It was difficult to convince others that this lifestyle was healthy…and believe it myself.

Since the Travel Industry has so many different services and benefits for travelers, this opportunity was different right from the start. It is about the freedom of having your own home-based travel business as well as everything that comes with being a legitimate travel agent with your own agency, without the overhead of a traditional brick-and-mortar business. Some travel agents do have an office, but it is not required or needed to have success. A top earning online travel agent will understand this is not selling a get-rich-quick scheme, we are selling real, tangible adventures and experiences. If this sounds exciting, you can too!

I had difficulty going from the traditional offline marketing model to the current online marketing model, as the learning curve for both was vastly different. I quickly learned that educating myself about a new business does not have to be difficult. If you choose to partner with ImaTravel.Pro, you will have access to on-demand, in-depth tutorials as well as easy step-by-step instructions for selling travel and earning commission. For me, this opportunity was about rebuilding my lifestyle and caring for my mom; for you, working as a travel agent can be a way to save money on your own travel, a hobby, a career, or anything else you want it to be.

I carry with me to this day the invaluable lessons I learned in those early days of my business about perseverance and having a positive mindset. I share with you three of the most powerful:

  • My success is 99% attributable to the mentorship I received during those early days. I am honored with the ability to pay it back by assisting the people that I bring into this business with me and helping them overcome the difficulties they are facing.
  • I didn’t have to compromise on my time with family. While I managed my business from home, I was able to spend time with my mom. There were times when I was working by her side that I would look over to see her smiling at me. To be able to share this time with her was such a blessing. I was able to be her primary caregiver and still earn enough of an income to provide for us both.
  • I could save money and make money from something I loved doing. This was a perfect time in my life to bet on myself since my finances had changed tremendously. I thought I was a “world traveler” before I became a travel business owner. Now I travel more frequently to more destinations then I ever previously imagined—all while making money and helping others find the same joy I was experiencing.

Looking back on this time, I realize that learning something new and creating new adventures in my life is exciting to me. I was able to overcome the challenges I was dealing with by creating dreams and goals for myself and my business. When my new venture started, it was all about my needs and wants…and I had a lot of them. In the process of learning new skills and meeting many new people, I was still in my element because I was helping people live.

However, this time I am not just helping people to stay alive; I am helping people, from 18 to 80, to live and to pursue their own dreams and goals.

I refocused the love and compassion for people that made me an excellent nurse into encouraging people to take their dream vacation and encouraging my business partners to set new goals and aspirations. This allowed me to grow personally, which is more rewarding than I ever thought possible.

If you are interested in an opportunity to get involved in this amazing industry, reach out to me today.  I look forward to helping you achieve your dreams and goals.
